Course Content
The Basic Rhythm - Tabla course is designed for beginners who want to explore the fundamentals of the tabla, one of the most versatile percussion instruments in Indian classical music. This course provides an introduction to the tabla, covering its structure, components, and the significance of the Dayan (right drum) and Bayan (left drum) in creating rhythmic patterns.
Students will learn basic tabla syllables (bols) such as Dha, Dhin, Na, Tin, Ta, and Kay, which form the foundation of tabla compositions. The course also focuses on finger placements and hand techniques, ensuring proper playing posture and technique for clear, crisp sounds.
A key aspect of the course is understanding Taal (rhythmic cycles), starting with basic Taals like Teentaal (16 beats) and Keharwa (8 beats). Students will practice simple compositions, such as Theka (basic rhythmic framework) and introductory Kaida (variations), to build fluency and coordination.
By the end of the course, participants will have a strong foundation in tabla playing, enabling them to accompany music or continue their learning with more complex rhythmic patterns and improvisations.
