Course Content

This Hindustani Classical Vocal Intermediate Course is specially designed for students who already possess basic knowledge of vocal music and wish to deepen their understanding of raga, rhythm, and voice control. The course focuses on refining swar accuracy, improving tonal clarity, and developing confidence in singing with proper rhythm and double laya. Through structured practice and guided training, learners progress from foundational skills to more expressive and disciplined singing.

The syllabus begins with voice culture and strengthening techniques, including revision of correct posture and breathing methods. Students practice long note holding exercises to build vocal stability, breath control, and sustained tonal quality. These exercises help in achieving a balanced, resonant voice that is essential for intermediate-level singing.

In the advanced swar practice section, learners revise shuddha swaras with emphasis on pitch precision and smooth transitions. This is followed by easy swargam practice, where structured swargam patterns based on Raga Yaman are taught to enhance note clarity, voice flexibility, and melodic flow. These patterns help students internalize the raga framework while improving control over swaras.

The course also introduces and reinforces rhythm (taal) concepts, including revision of basic taal knowledge and practical application of Teen Taal through clapping exercises. Students are then guided into double laya practice, understanding its concept and learning how to maintain accuracy and confidence while singing at increased speed, an essential aspect of layakari practice in singing.

A dedicated section focuses on Raga Yaman, covering its nature, mood, and expressive characteristics. Students learn how to bring emotion, smoothness, and raga bhaav into their singing, preparing them for further studies in taan, alankar, meend, and gamak. The course concludes with clear practice routine guidance, including daily voice warm-ups and breathing exercises to ensure steady progress and vocal health.
