Definition – Two sangeet paddhati of India, Dhwani, Origin of Dhwani, Naad, Naad-Sthan, Shruti, Swar, Prakrit Swar, Achal and Chal Swar, Shudha and Vikrit-swar (komal and tiwra), Saptak ,Madhra) Madhya, Taar, (Thaat, Raag, Varna , Sthai ) Aaroh , Avaroh Sanchari,(Alankar (Palta), Raag Jati Audav), Shadav, Sampurn Vadi, (Samvadi , Anuvadi, Varhit Swar, Pakad Alap Taan, Khayal, Sargam, Sthai , Antara,Lay Vilambit) Madhya, Drut), Matra, Taal Vibhag, Sam Tali, Khali Theka, Aavartan, Thah and Dugun.

(2). Raga Introduction – Brief introduction to the raags of the syllabus.

(3). Taal Introduction – Complete introduction to the taals of the syllabus and practice of writing them in Thah and Dugun.

(4). Raag recognition by written swar groups.

(5). Elementary knowledge of any one method of Vishnu-Digambara or Bharat-Khande paddhati.

(6). Brief biographies of Vishnu Digambar and Bhatkhande and brief introduction to their musical works.
